The Hollies - Bus Stop (1966)

Side A:
1. Bus Stop
2. I Am a Rock
3. Sweet Little Sixteen
4. We're Through
5. Don't Run and Hide

Side B:
6. Look Through Any Window
7. Mickey's Monkey
8. Fortune Teller
9. Honey and Wine
10. Yes I Will

When I was looking up the discography of the Hollies, I saw that they released three albums in 1966. I thought this was impressive because this was one year before The Monkees released three albums in 1967. As it turns out one of the albums was American in origin and simply contained tracks from the band that hadn't appeared on American versions of their British albums. You see during the British Invasion, British albums would have American versions that would have different track listings, but for the Hollies, they'd have American and Canadian versions!

Not only that but the album included material from their whole discography at that point, including material from their first album which they recorded in 1963! They were reportedly unhappy about this which caused them to leave their American label. But I thought if I can't make it an album of original material, maybe I can make the material more current. So all the tracks on the first side are from 1966 and all the tracks from the second side are from 1965. The album is shorter by two tracks so I can't say if it's better, but all the material is new except one track.

Love - Out Here (1969)

Side A:
1. I’ll Pray For You
2. Abalony
3. Signed D.C.
4. Listen to My Song
5. I’m Down

Side B:
6. Run to the Top
7. Willow Willow
8. I Still Wonder
9. You Are Something
10. Gather ‘Round

This is a single album version of the double album Out Here by Love. In 1967, Love released the album Forever Changes which would be voted one of the best albums of the 60s. But by 1968, leader Arthur Lee would be the only remaining member and was told by his label that he had to release one more album. He quickly formed a quartet and would eventually record 27 songs. He released ten of them as the album Four Sail and released the other 17 as a double album called Out Here under a different label, both coming out in 1969.

The double album contained two tracks that were over 10 minutes long and a couple tracks that were less than 2 minutes long. But most of the average length tracks were on sides A and D. I took out the track Instra-Mental from side D and replaced it with a song called I Still Wonder from side C. Their next album False Start included a live version of a song called Stand Out from side B, so I figured they would use the studio version in this universe. You could pair it with Four Sail.

Bruce Springsteen - The Ties That Bind (2 LP) (1981)

Side A:
1. Living On the Edge of the World
2. Take ‘Em As They Come
3. Be True
4. Ricky Wants a Man of Her Own
5. I Wanna Be With You
6. Mary Lou

Side B:
7. Restless Nights
8. Roulette
9. Dollhouse
10. Bring On the Night
11. Where the Bands Are
12. Loose Ends

Side C:
13. Meet Me in the City
14. The Man Who Got Away
15. Little White Lies
16. The Time That Never Was
17. Night Fire
18. Whitetown

Side D:
19. Chain Lightning
20. Party Lights
21. Paradise By the "C"
22. Stray Bullet
23. Held Up Without a Gun
24. From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come)

This is a double album of outtakes from Bruce Springsteen's double album The River. The first record comes from disc 2 of the Tracks box set with one track from disc 1. They appeared later as the second half of the fourth disc of the Ties That Bind box set. After listening to the material, I felt like it would be better released as a double album like the original album. It also meant that I had to use every song available except for one called Mr. Outside. Be True and Loose Ends are also found on the third disc of The Ties That Bind which means Bring On the Night was the only exclusive track from Tracks.

Bruce Springsteen - Pink Cadillac (1986)

Side A:
1. My Love Will Not Let You Down
2. Cynthia
3. This Hard Land
4. Frankie

Side B:
5. TV Movie
6. A Good Man is Hard to Find (Pittsburgh)
7. Lion's Den
8. Car Wash
9. Man at the Top
10. Pink Cadillac
11. Janey, Don’t You Lose Heart

When Bruce Springsteen was working on his box set Tracks in 1998, he totaled the number of unreleased songs he wrote at 350. Three of his albums had more than 50 songs written for them, but the box set spanned across his whole discography up to that point. Eventually it was cut down to 66 songs on four CDs. A single CD version was also released called 18 Tracks which contained three songs not included on the box set. Since then box sets were made focusing on two of the big three and various other outtakes were spread across other compilations, but one was never made for outtakes of Born in the U.S.A.

The box set contains most of these outtakes on disc 3 with some of them on disc 2, but there are enough tracks to make an single disc out of with 17 tracks in total. I found a couple more outtakes on various compilation albums but I just wanted to focus on these 17. It seems that the previous album Nebraska was recorded at the same time as Born in the U.S.A. so maybe Bruce had so much good material that he wanted to release it on three albums.

Buffalo Springfield - Stampede (1967)

Side A:
1. For What It's Worth
2. Down, Down, Down
3. We’ll See
4. Down to the Wire
5. My Kind of Love
6. Kahuna Sunset

Side B:
7. Sell Out
8. No Sun Today
9. Pretty Girl Why
10. Neighbor Don’t You Worry
11. Slowly Burning
12. Buffalo Stomp (Raga)

Buffalo Springfield released their first album in December 1966. Their first single called Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even Sing was released in August, but neither the single nor the album sold well. On the same day the album came out, they recorded the song For What It’s Worth and released it as a single a couple days later. It became the band’s first real hit, peaking in March 1967. The label wanted the band to put out a second album to capitalize on their success, but when the band didn’t have enough material to put out a second one, they re-released the first one with the single as the first track, cutting out another song called Baby Don’t Scold Me which resulted in it never getting a stereo mix. (Although a track called Burned also never got one.)

The label made plans to put out a second album called Stampede with material the band was working on at the time, but the band was never made aware of this and their real second album called Buffalo Springfield Again wasn’t released till November 1967, mostly made up of songs the members recorded solo. Also no track listing was made for the album, so fans are left to speculate about which songs would’ve made the cut. Some of the tracks though would be released on the 2001 Buffalo Springfield box set, so we can use some of those tracks.

Unfortunately the band didn’t record a lot of material between January and March 1967, so some songs recorded for the first album that didn’t make the cut will have to be used instead. Also the box set included a lot of acoustic demos that I’d rather not include and some instrumentals that I’ll be forced to include. I wanna make this a counterpart album to Buffalo Springfield Again so that they don’t use the same tracks. But we’ll put the single as the first track.

Other notable songs include Pretty Girl Why which was originally released on their third album Last Time Around from 1968 but was recorded around this time, but this can be fixed by putting Whatever Happened to Saturday Night? from the box set in its place on the album. Also included is the song Sell Out from Neil Young’s Archives Vol. 1, but it was edited to fade out early.

2. Trapped
3. Unhappy Cycling
4. House of Abin'adab
5. Finity
6. Forest Moon
7. Mansel
8. She is P

14. 5.9.78
15. Up the March Bank
16. Oirectine
17. Twoism

This one is a bootleg demo tape as opposed to the unreleased studio album Boc Maxima. The tapes share some tracks in common so like I did before, I took out all the short and released tracks and replaced them with two bonus tracks from the Twoism EP tacked on the end.

1. Chinook
2. Rodox Video
3. Everything You Do is a Balloon
4. Nova Scotia Robots
5. June 9th
6. Skimming Stones
7. Sixtyniner

Side B:
9. Carcan
10. Nlogax
11. M9
12. Original Nlogax
13. Whitewater
14. Hi Scores
15. Seeya Later

This was a demo tape that the Boards of Canada released before their first album Music Has the Right to Children in 1998. The songs segue into each other but most of them were found on other releases. Five of the songs would be on the first album but four of the songs were exclusive to the demo. Two of the songs were transitional so I took out seven of the songs and replaced them with two bonus songs from the Hi Scores EP tacked on the end.

Bonzo Dog Band - Lucky Planet (1970)

Side A:
1. Not the First Time
2. Labio-Dental Fricative
3. Witchi Tai To
4. Sail Away
5. Blind Date
6. 9-5 Pollution Blues
7. Suspicion

Side B:
8. Lead Us
9. Paper Round
10. Jam
11. Things I Could've Said
12. Cyborg Signal
13. Come Out Into the Open II

When I was younger, I asked myself the question "What if the Bonzo Dog Band never broke up?" This was inspired by discussions I saw online speculating about "What if The Beatles never broke up?" or "What if Syd Barrett never left Pink Floyd?" I never saw the Bonzos talked about as much but looking at it again, their careers were so sporadic that being able to make albums only seems possible for certain years. Also a lot of the songs would later be used for an imagined Rutles discography I found online since Neil Innes was in both, but I feel like it takes away from the other Bonzos' solo music like Vivian Stanshall and Roger Ruskin Spear.

The year 1970 seems the most possible to make an album out of though. The Bonzos broke up in January 1970 and played their last show in March. Afterwards Neil formed the band The World with Dennis Cowan, Ian Wallace, and Roger McKew, and Vivian formed the band Big Grunt with Dennis Cowan and Roger Ruskin Spear, most of whom were former Bonzo members. The World released one album called Lucky Planet and Big Grunt recorded one John Peel session which was later released as an EP in 2016.

By the end of the year both bands had broken up and in 1971 they were informed by their label that the Bonzos owed them one more album which was released in 1972 as Let's Make Up and Be Friendly. The album uses 6 tracks from the Lucky Planet album excluding a 10 minute jam track and various tracks released by Vivian Stanshall as singles at the time. Edit: I'm including one single by "Legs" Larry Smith released under the name Topo D. Bil.

They Might Be Giants - Then: The Earlier Years (1997)

1. Critic Intro
2. Now That I Have Everything
3. Mainstream U.S.A.
4. Fake Out in Buenos Aires
5. Greek Number Three
6. I Hope That I Get Old Before I Die (Demo)
7. I’m Def
8. Don’t Let’s Start (Demo)
9. Hell Hotel
10. ‘85 Radio Special Thank You
11. Kitten Intro
12. Weep Day
13. The Big Big Whoredom
14. I’m Gettin’ Sentimental Over You
15. Become a Robot
16. Swing is a Word
17. Which Describes How You’re Feeling (Demo)
18. Doris Cunningham
19. Counterfeit Fake
20. Schoolchildren Singing “Particle Man”

This is a single album version of They Might Be Giants’ compilation album Then: The Earlier Years. It was pretty easy to make since I just had to cut out all the material previously released on their first two albums and their first compilation album Miscellaneous T. I had this version of the album on my computer for years before remembering that it’s technically a single album version of a double album release.

Five of the songs were previously released on the 1985 demo tape and two of the five previously appeared on The Statue Got Me High EP. Because of this I’m also including the song Hell Hotel from the demo tape which was the only track to never be re-released.

John Frusciante - Smile From the Streets You Hold (1994)

1. Enter a Uh
2. The Other
3. Life’s a Bath
4. A Fall Through the Ground
5. Poppy Man
6. I’m Always
7. Femininity
8. Breathe
9. Usually Just a T-Shirt
10. Height Down
11. Well I’ve Been
12. Smile From the Streets You Hold

This is John Frusciante’s second solo album which he released in 1997, although most of the tracks were recorded around the same time as his first one. My plan was to take out the tracks that were recorded after the first album came out and replace them with tracks I liked from Usually Just a T-Shirt, but only three of the tracks were recorded in between the two albums and most of the tracks on Usually were instrumental, so I took those out but also took out three more tracks and put in one track from Usually which was the bonus track on the cassette.

Both albums were taken off the market when Frusciante rejoined the Peppers in 1998, only for the first one to get reissued in 1999. There was talk of this one getting reissued too but it never happened. Two of the songs feature Rivers Phoenix before his passing and were intended to be released on the first album but got dropped till the second album.

Bob Dylan - Self Portrait (1970) (upgrade)

Side A:
1. Alberta #1
2. Days of '49
3. Early Mornin' Rain
4. In Search of Little Sadie
5. Little Sadie
6. Belle Isle

Side B:
7. Copper Kettle
8. Gotta Travel On
9. Annie's Gonna Sing Her Song
10. Railroad Bill
11. These Hands
12. Tattle O'Day

This is my first ever album upgrade post. In doing research on the last Bob Dylan double album post I did which was Blonde on Blonde, I cut out too much material and had to look through outtakes to look for more. I heard this album had some outtakes but I found 8 from The Bootleg Series Vol. 10: Another Self Portrait and 2 from the Dylan album from 1973 for a total of 10!

My main problem with my last reconstruction was that there weren't enough tracks using Dylan's regular voice to make a full album, but with these new outtakes we can! Three of them ended up using Dylan's country croon, the two tracks from Dylan and Pretty Saro from Another Self Portrait. But when deciding on which material to use, I took out the last 5 tracks and replaced them with 4 new ones. The end result finally sounds like a proper cover album.

John Frusciante - Niandra LeDes (1994)

1. As Can Be
2. My Smile is a Rifle
3. Head (Beach Arab)
4. Big Takeover (Bad Brains Cover)
5. Curtains
6. Running Away Into You
7. Ants
8. Mascara
9. Outside Space
10. Been Insane
11. Skin Blues
12. Your Pussy's Glued to a Building on Fire
13. Blood on My Neck from Success
14. Ten to Butter Blood Voodoo

This was John Frusciante's debut solo album after leaving the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1992. It was recorded in two parts called Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt under the influence of heroin, but the cassette release included the bonus track Ants and the Estrus EP from 1997 included the song Outside Space that was left off the original release. Also both parts were 40 minutes long, about as long as an album, but were released as one cassette. The second part was described as “weird and experimental” so I just included the first part but cut out the outros to Running Away Into You and Mascara.

Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde (1966)

Side A:
1. Rainy Day Women #12 & 35
2. Pledging My Time
3. One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)
4. I Want You
5. Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat
6. Just Like a Woman

Side B:
7. Most Likely You Go Your Way and I’ll Go Mine
8. Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?
9. Temporary Like Achilles
10. Absolutely Sweet Marie
11. 4th Time Around
12. Obviously 5 Believers

This is a single album version of Bob Dylan's double album Blonde on Blonde. Not only is this his first double album but it's also THE first double album, beating The Mothers of Invention's Freak Out! by a week. One interesting thing is that the last song is 11 minutes long but also takes up the last side making it considerably shorter than the other sides. Because of this I wanted to see what kind of bonus material I could include which I don't usually do when condensing an album, but I also cut out the two lengthy 7 minute long songs so it seemed necessary.

Three of the songs from this period I couldn't include because they were a minute long: Medicine Sunday, Jet Pilot, and Lunatic Princess, but some songs I could include are Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?, I Wanna Be Your Lover, She's Your Lover Now, and I'll Keep It With Mine. The last two were incomplete so I ended up only using the first one. These were recorded during the New York sessions which lasted from October 1965 to January 1966, but only one song made it to the final version of the album. Afterwards recording sessions moved to Nashville.

Cream - Goodbye (1969)

Side A:
1. Never Tell Your Mother She's Out of Tune
2. Theme For an Imaginary Western
3. Weird of Hermiston
4. The Clearout
5. Well All Right

Side B:
6. Badge
7. Doing That Scrapyard Thing
8. What a Bringdown!
9. Lawdy Mama
10. Hey Now Princess

This is an all studio version of Goodbye, the last album by Cream. They had planned on releasing it as a studio / live double album like their last album Wheels of Fire, but they released it as a single album instead. Some blogs I've seen expand it to a double album but I'm keeping it as a single album. Each of the three studio songs were written by each of the three members, an idea that would be better executed later in the year by Pink Floyd with their album Ummagumma.

For this we're gonna use tracks from the only album by the supergroup Blind Faith which feature two of the members as well as Jack Bruce's first album Songs for a Tailor. It was his first to be released but his second to be recorded, the first one being an instrumental jazz album. It was recorded during Bruce's time with the band but some of the songs on his first album would be demoed for the Cream album Disraeli Gears. For this I included the solo versions but also the song Hey Now Princess from around this time from the Those Were the Days compilation.

Also included is the song Lawdy Mama, the only studio song from the band's first live album Live Cream, though I think the version from Those Were the Days would've made for a better album closer than Mother's Lament. The Blind Faith album was their sole release as a supergroup which included 2 members from Cream as well as Steve Winwood from Traffic. The duo only wrote a duo of songs but one of them is a long jam which I'm opting to exclude. The other one was written by Eric Clapton but was sung by Steve. Meanwhile Eric sang on Well All Right.

Devo - Hardcore Devo Vol. 3 (1992)

1. Booji's Industrial Death
2. Total Luv
3. Live Forever
4. Androgyny
5. Bicentennial Birthday
6. The Twinkle Tune
7. Private Secretary
8. I Don't Know Why
9. Dixie
10. Pigs Waddle
11. Death of Lt. Casanova
12. I Don't Know What I Do-Do
13. Huboon Stomp
14. Everything's Gonna Be Alright
15. Falling in Love Again
16. Lost at Home
17. Untitled
18. Never Go Back
19. Nutty Buddy

This was an idea that I had for years, but I only had a list of songs I could use and not a track listing. Recently though Devo released a 2 CD compilation album containing more of their early material. Not only would the tracks be in better quality but I could cut out a CD of stuff.

4. One More Parade (1990)
5. Welcome to the Jungle (1992)
6. I Blame You (1992)
7. Moving to the Sun (1992)
8. Cabbagetown (1992)
9. Siftin' (1992)
10. Why Does the Sun Shine? (1993)
11. Jessica (1993)
12. Whirlpool (1993)
13. Spy (Original Version) (1993)
14. O Tannenbaum (1993)
15. Christmas Cards (1993)
16. Ondine (1994)
17. She Was a Hotel Detective (1994)
18. Mrs. Train (1994)
19. 25 O'Clock (1995)
20. Sensurround (Soundtrack Version) (1995)
21. Unforgotten (1996)
22. We've Got a World That Swings (1996)

This is the sequel to the band's first compilation album Miscellaneous T which came out in 1991. It compiled B-sides from the band's first two albums but it's really an American version of a European release called Don't Let's Start which came out two years earlier and features one fewer track. It was released because 1991 had been a slow year for the band who still wanted to release something. This album picks up where that one left off with B-sides from the band's major label era starting with Flood in 1990 to Factory Showroom in 1996. The album was supposed to have been released around this time but never did as the group focused their efforts on Then: The Earlier Years instead comprising of more of their earlier material.

The band planned on releasing it as a double disc with B-sides on one disc and remixes on the other. There was a fan-made version of this that existed in 1999, but the first disc included three remix tracks as well as some other tracks which I opted to exclude. It's also a single disc.

Paul McCartney - Cold Cuts (1987)

Side A:
1. Lindiana (1984)
2. Boil Crisis (1980)
3. Cage (1978)
4. Robber's Ball (1978)
5. Big Day (1987)
6. Did We Meet Somewhere Before? (1978)

Side B:
7. Waterspout (1977)
8. The Unbelievable Experience (1980)
9. Give Us a Chord, Roy (1980)
10. Peacocks (1987)
11. Seems Like Old Times (1978)
12. Return to Pepperland (1987)

In 1987, Paul McCartney had two projects going on, a studio album called Return to Pepperland and a compilation album idea he'd been toying with for the past decade called Cold Cuts. Neither one got released but most tracks got released on other things, and Paul released a compilation album called All the Best! instead. However some tracks remain unreleased. From Cold Cuts, the unreleased tracks are Cage, Did We Meet Somewhere Before?, Robber's Ball, and Waterspout. On Return to Pepperland, the unreleased tracks are Big Day, Lindiana, Return to Pepperland, and Peacocks. Waterspout was supposed to be released on All the Best! but a different song got released instead called Once Upon a Long Ago.

This is a well-known album in the unreleased album community so I wanted to put a spin on it. I took these 8 tracks and wanted to see what other unreleased Paul songs are out there. The Cold Cuts project was being worked on as early as 1974 but I decided to start at 1977 so the songs would be at least a decade old at that point like Waterspout. The Tug of War sessions gave us a lot of unreleased tracks we could potentially use like Boil Crisis. Some of the tracks would be played on Paul's Oobu Joobu radio show from around the Flaming Pie era.

Beck - Stereopathetic Soulmanure (1994)

1. Pink Noise (Rock Me Amadeus)
2. Rowboat
3. Thunder Peel
4. The Spirit Moves Me
5. Crystal Clear (Beer)
6. No Money No Honey
7. Total Soul Future (Eat It)
8. One Foot in the Grave
9. Aphid Manure Heist
10. Today Has Been a Fucked Up Day
11. Rollins Power Sauce
12. Puttin' It Down
13. Cut 1/2 Blues
14. Ozzy
15. Satan Gave Me a Taco
16. Tasergun
17. Modesto

Hey this is my first post in a couple months. Here's a weird one for you. Similarly to Daniel Johnston, I had been wanting to put something out about Beck for a while. It's the first of three albums he released in 1994, this one being described as "a grab bag" and "anti-commercial". It was put on streaming last year for the first time where it added a couple noise tracks. "Noise 1" is the intro to No Money No Honey, "Noise 2" is the outro to One Foot in the Grave, and "Noise 3" is the intro to Aphid Manure Heist.

I got rid of the first two tracks but kept the third cause it sounded melodic and also the track would be a minute long without it. I cut out all the short tracks but also edited Today Has Been a Fucked Up Day and cut out the intro to Rollins Power Sauce. There was also a really long noise track at the end of the album that I cut out. The album didn't have any singles but I would pick Rowboat and Satan Gave Me a Taco.

The Hollies - Listen to Us (1968)

Side A: 1. Open Up Your Eyes 2. Do the Best You Can 3. Relax 4. Tomorrow When It Comes 5. Man With No Expression 6. Like Every Time Before...
