The Beatles - Help! (1965)

Side A:
1. Help!
2. The Night Before
3. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
4, I Need You
5. Another Girl
6. You're Going to Lose That Girl
7. Ticket to Ride

Side B:
1. Yes It Is
2. It's Only Love
3. You Like Me Too Much
4. Tell Me What You See
5. I've Just Seen a Face
6. Yesterday
7. I'm Down

Though Beatles for Sale was the band's last album that's half covers, Help! is technically the band's last album to feature covers, as there were only two. However Past Masters show us that there are two original songs we can swap out, so this one required the least amount of work.

The Beatles - Beatles for Sale (1964)

Side A:
1. No Reply
2. I'm a Loser
3. Baby's in Black
4. Every Little Thing
5. I'll Follow the Sun
6. Eight Days a Week
7. I Don't Want to Spoil the Party

Side B:
8. Long Tall Sally
9. I Call Your Name
10. Slow Down
11. Matchbox
12. I Feel Fine
13. She's a Woman
14. What You're Doing

Some people call Beatles for Sale the worst Beatles album. It could be because their sound was getting more folky, or it could be because this was their last major album that's half covers. One blog I saw went so far as to make an all originals version of Beatles for Sale. And while my version isn't like that, I took out the 6 covers and found that there were 6 songs from Past Masters that I could use, though some of them were covers.

The Beatles - Second Album (1963)

Side A:
1. I Want to Hold Your Hand
2. From Me to You
3. Thank You Girl
4. She Loves You
5. I'll Get You
6. Ask Me Why
7. This Boy

Side B:
8. Boys
9. Twist and Shout
10. Please Mr. Postman
11. Roll Over Beethoven
12. You Really Got a Hold on Me
13. Devil in Her Heart
14. Money (That's What I Want)

As mentioned in my last post, when The Beatles released two albums in 1963, they were both half covers and half originals, meaning you could combine all the originals on one album and all the covers on another. But as the Past Masters compilations showed us, they had a few more originals around this time. So the first side has all the originals from Past Masters plus one from Please Please Me I didn't use before, and the second side has the most rocking of the covers.

The Beatles - Meet the Beatles! (1963)

Side A:
1. I Saw Her Standing There
2. Misery
3. Please Please Me
4. Love Me Do
5. P.S. I Love You
6. Do You Want to Know a Secret?
7. There's a Place

Side B:
8. It Won't Be Long
9. All I've Got to Do
10. All My Loving
11. Don't Bother Me
12. Little Child
13. Hold Me Tight
14. I Wanna Be Your Man
15. Not a Second Time

For as long as this blog had preferred American versions of British releases, the Beatles' British albums have been considered mostly canon with the exception of one album. But basically the premise is this: if the Beatles released two albums in 1963 with both being half covers and half originals, then why not just combine all the original tracks together? Although the album is called Meet the Beatles! and combines tracks from both albums, this is a take on my original idea.

The Beatles - Introducing the Beatles (1962)

Side A:
1. Like Dreamers Do
2. Ain't She Sweet?
3. How Do You Do It?
4. The Sheik of Araby
5. To Know Her is to Love Her
6. Take Good Care of My Baby
7. Memphis, Tennessee

Side B:

10. Three Cool Cats
11. Crying, Waiting, Hoping
12. Love of the Loved
13. September in the Rain
14. Besame Mucho
15. Searchin'

This is an album based on the band's unsuccessful audition demo tape for the record label Decca. Six of the tracks would get released on Anthology 1 but two of the tracks got released on With the Beatles. I cut those out and replaced them with two other tracks from Anthology.

Wings - Back to the Egg (1979)

Side A:
1. We're Open Tonight
2. Getting Closer
3. Spin It On
4. Again and Again and Again
5. Old Siam, Sir
6. Arrow Through Me
7. To You

Side B:
8. After the Ball
9. Love Awake
10. So Glad to See You Here
11. Goodnight Tonight
12. Daytime Nighttime Suffering
13. Weep for Love

When I was working on my London Town album, I listened to that album as well as this one. I thought that this one had some weak tracks but I ended up not using it. Despite that I always felt like it could be improved. So I listened to it again and I thought it was weak in the second half. Two of the songs were medleys but I cut both in half and kept part of them. I also took out 5 tracks and replaced them with 3 new ones like both sides of a non-album single.

Wings - Red Rose Speedway (2 LP) (1973)

Side A:
1. Big Barn Bed
2. My Love
3. Get on the Right Thing
4. One More Kiss
5. Little Lamb Dragonfly

Side B:
6. Single Pigeon
7. When the Night
8. Loup (1st Indian on the Moon)
9. Medley: Hold Me Tight/Lazy Dynamite/Hands of Love/Power Cut

Side C:
10. Night Out
11. Country Dreamer
12. Seaside Woman
13. I Lie Around
14. Mama's Little Girl
15. I Would Only Smile

Side D:
16. Mary Had a Little Lamb
17. Tragedy
18. Little Woman Love
19. Hi, Hi, Hi
20. The Mess
21. Live and Let Die

Red Rose Speedway was originally supposed to be a double album, but the label didn't think the material was sufficient enough to warrant a double album given the lack of sales of Wings' first album Wild Life. However this would also be the first album to credit the band as Paul McCartney and Wings instead of just Wings to help increase the sales. One commenter I saw thought it was funny that around this time Yoko was allowed to release a rock double album and Paul wasn't, and honestly I think Yoko's album was better, but I cut it down to a single album. A double album version of it exists but includes a couple live tracks, so I just made the original version the first two sides and made the outtakes the next two sides.

Paul McCartney - Cold Cuts (1987)

Side A:
1. Lindiana (1984)
2. Boil Crisis (1980)
3. Cage (1978)
4. Robber's Ball (1978)
5. Big Day (1987)
6. Did We Meet Somewhere Before? (1978)

Side B:
7. Waterspout (1977)
8. The Unbelievable Experience (1980)
9. Give Us a Chord, Roy (1980)
10. Peacocks (1987)
11. Seems Like Old Times (1978)
12. Return to Pepperland (1987)

In 1987, Paul McCartney had two projects going on, a studio album called Return to Pepperland and a compilation album idea he'd been toying with for the past decade called Cold Cuts. Neither one got released but most tracks got released on other things, and Paul released a compilation album called All the Best! instead. However some tracks remain unreleased. From Cold Cuts, the unreleased tracks are Cage, Did We Meet Somewhere Before?, Robber's Ball, and Waterspout. On Return to Pepperland, the unreleased tracks are Big Day, Lindiana, Return to Pepperland, and Peacocks. Waterspout was supposed to be released on All the Best! but a different song got released instead called Once Upon a Long Ago.

This is a well-known album in the unreleased album community so I wanted to put a spin on it. I took these 8 tracks and wanted to see what other unreleased Paul songs are out there. The Cold Cuts project was being worked on as early as 1974 but I decided to start at 1977 so the songs would be at least a decade old at that point like Waterspout. The Tug of War sessions gave us a lot of unreleased tracks we could potentially use like Boil Crisis. Some of the tracks would be played on Paul's Oobu Joobu radio show from around the Flaming Pie era.

The Beatles - London Town (1979)

Side A:
1. London Town
2. Love Comes to Everyone
3. Hard Times
4. Café on the Left Bank
5. Here Comes the Moon

Side B:
6. Who Needs a Heart?
7. Girlfriend
8. Blow Away
9. Monkey See, Monkey Do
10. Don't Let It Bring You Down

This was my attempt at constructing an album that The Beatles might've put out in 1979. I already know about the gap in John's discography from 1975 to 1980 but what I didn't know was that George also had a gap in his discography from 1976 to 1979. When he released his self-titled album in 1979, some of the songs were recorded almost a year ago. The album could've been released in December 1978 if not for some artwork issues. Paul and Ringo both released two albums around this time but the albums would need to match the sound of George's album if we're using it as a centerpiece, so I'm also using Paul's London Town and Ringo's Bad Boy.

When The Beatles released Between the Lines in 1976, John contributed one song but had dropped out as a member making him the first to quit, so the band would be forced to go on as a trio. They had considered becoming a studio only band like they did 10 years ago, but they were forced to go on a hiatus only to make a short-lived comeback a few years later. John doesn't make an appearance on the album but rumor is he may be able to rejoin the band in the next year. I cut a little out of the intro to Here Comes the Moon.

Bonus Track - John and Ringo Advertise Their Albums

This might sound crazy but I remember reading about a supposedly lost John/Ringo collaboration album that was supposed to come out in 1975 called Verses. I tried looking up info about it but I couldn't find anything, but I swear it was something I read online and not something I made up. Because of that, all info about this album is fictional, but it consists of the best tracks from John's Walls and Bridges album and Ringo's Goodnight Vienna album from 1974. The only question I couldn't answer was why would it have been put together?

Both albums were recorded in the summer of 1974 and released in the fall of that year, but both artists also put out compilation albums in the fall of 1975, John's Shaved Fish album and Ringo's Blast From Your Past album. It was said that after John had released Rock 'n' Roll in 1975, he planned on releasing another album that year of all new material, but when Yoko got pregnant with Sean, he had to stop recording all new music for about 5 years.

Giving us a timeline of about March to October 1975, I think the album would've come out in the summer, in August about a year after all the tracks were recorded. Though if you were a Ringo fan who was excited about Goodnight Vienna coming out in November 1974, you would've had to wait a year before you could listen to songs by Ringo you would've already heard. So again the question is why would it have been put together?

When I was trying to find a cover I could use for this, I found a pic of them claiming to be from 1975, but upon further research it was more likely that it was taken in 1976. I found out though that they probably had the best relationship between any two Beatles after their break-up, so I think it would've been John's idea to put it out to help promote Ringo's album. I also found out that Ringo recorded a voiceover for a TV commercial promoting John's album and John recorded a voiceover for a TV commercial promoting Ringo's album. Also John wrote the titular track for Ringo to record. The final cover I went with was something simplistic I put together using White Album-era photos. I included both of the advertisements as a bonus track but it's only 1:30 long.
