The La's - Cocktail (1989)

1. Knock Me Down
2. Endless
3. Come In Come Out
4. Who Knows?
5. Man I'm Only Human
6. All by Myself
7. Clean Prophet
8. Over
9. Callin' All
10. I Am the Key

The La's were a band that famously only put out one album in 1990 before breaking up in 1992. But the band had apparently been around for almost ten years and attempted to record their debut album several times before getting it right. In fact their big single There She Goes was originally released in 1988 but wouldn't become a big hit till it was re-released in 1990. Though they recorded enough material to put out a second album. The version of Over that was released as a bonus track when it was reissued was a version recorded live in a barn in Liverpool, so the version used came from a radio session.

Traveling Wilburys - Volume 2 (1989)

1. Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
2. You Got It - Roy Orbison
3. Political World - Bob Dylan
4. Maxine - George Harrison
5. I Won't Back Down - Tom Petty
6. (All I Can Do is) Dream You - Roy Orbison
7. Everything is Broken - Bob Dylan
8. Runnin' Down a Dream - Tom Petty
9. California Blue - Roy Orbison
10. Like a Ship - Bob Dylan

The Traveling Wilburys were a British-American supergroup that released two albums. The original line-up consisted of George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison, but Roy passed away after recording the first album. He did however release a posthumous album, and when they released their second album, they called it Volume 3 as a joke. This is an idea that I've seen on a couple other blogs, but it could theoretically mean that there could be a second volume in between. Along with the Orbison record, there was also Bob Dylan's Oh Mercy and Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever, but I also used two first album bonus tracks.

Guided by Voices - Learning to Hunt (1989)

1. Blue Gil
2. Turbo Boy
3. Soul Flyers
4. Let's Go Vike
5. Dust Devil
6. Uncle Dave
7. Settlement Down
8. We've Got Airplanes
9. I Can See It in Your Eyes
10. Long Way to Run
11. Where I Come From
12. Oh, Blinky
13. Telephone Town
14. The Lodger Carried a Gun
15. Soul Barn
16. Lonely Town
17. The Issue Presents Itself
18. Cox Municipal Airport Song

This is probably the most well known early unreleased album by Guided by Voices. Some of the songs would later go on to be on the album Self Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia, and one song called Taco, Buffalo, Birddog, and Jesus would later go on to be an outtake for Bee Thousand and end up on my 2 LP version of that album. In 1995 when they were compiling their first box set, they added an exclusive album called King Shit and the Golden Boys. The first side contained two songs from the unreleased album Learning to Hunt and five songs from the unreleased album Back to Saturn X. The second side mops up outtakes from Bee Thousand.

Because the band had so much unreleased material, starting in 2000 they began releasing box sets as part of a series called Suitcase, named so in reference to band leader Robert Pollard's literal suitcases full of cassette tapes. I listened to the first two cause the years for the songs seemed to be well documented. However I was hoping to create an album in the style of their classic era, say 92-93, when a different era emerged. An earlier, poppier sound from them began to unfold in the era 87-89. And by that I just mean there was a lot more material.

Nirvana - Bleach (1989)

Side A:
1. Blew
2. Swap Meet
3. About a Girl
4. School
5. Love Buzz (Shocking Blue Cover)
6. Big Long Now

Side B:
7. Negative Creep
8. Scoff
9. Big Cheese
10. Sifting
11. Mr. Moustache

Here's my alternate universe version of Nirvana's first album Bleach. It's since been upgraded but there were only minor changes. "Floyd the Barber" and "Paper Cuts" got moved to Ashamed to Be Human to replace "Big Cheese" which got moved here, along with "Big Long Now", which got moved from Incesticide to here, and "Beans" from With the Lights Out, which just got deleted. "Big Cheese" was just a bonus track, along with "Downer", which also got moved to Ashamed to Be Human but got moved from Incesticide instead of Bleach.

The only other album that I haven't done yet is "In Utero", which I want to do but can't. There was stuff from the In Utero sessions that ended up as B-sides instead of being on the album, but nothing got moved from In Utero to Nevermind so I would have no room. The only stuff that got moved to Nevermind was from With the Lights Out.

The Who - Empty Glass (1981)
