Human Highway was intended to be the band's third album after Deja Vu in 1970. However due to conflicts between the band members’ "schedules", the album was worked on between 1973 and 1976 but never came out and the band's third album wouldn't be released till 1977. Graham Nash stated that the album was always intended as a single album of ten tracks, but in that time many of the songs from the sessions would later get released on their solo albums.

But the odd thing is that although the band got together many times during this period to work on the album, they also split into a dichotomy of sorts. David Crosby and Graham Nash got together to form Crosby and Nash and Stephen Stills and Neil Young got together to form The Stills-Young Band. Although Crosby and Nash put out three albums around this time, The Stills-Young Band only put out one but it was the closest album to being a reunion around this time.

There was an initial track list of ten tracks for the album, but I included another track called Prison Song by Graham Nash cause it was said that a full band version of the song existed. There was also a list of songs from bandmates' solo albums that were written around this time so I used that to form the second record. But a couple of the songs I had to take out for being written around this time but recorded afterwards such as Graham Nash's song It's All Right from Earth and Sky.

Some notable songs include the title track for which I'm using a version recorded in 1977 but versions from 1976 exist, as well as an alternate version of See the Changes from their CSN album but released on their CSN box set, and Stephen Stills' version of a song which Neil wrote. I also don't usually list the tracks alphabetically but I liked the flow of it this way.

Grateful Dead - Kingfish (1976)

Side A:
1. Might as Well - Jerry Garcia
2. Lazy Lightnin' - Bob Weir
3. Razooli - Mickey Hart
4. They Love Each Other - Jerry Garcia
5. Home to Dixie - Bob Weir

Side B:
6. Happiness is Drumming - Mickey Hart
7. It Must Have Been the Roses - Jerry Garcia
8. Bye and Bye - Bob Weir
9. Sweet Sixteen - Mickey Hart

Here's another new Grateful Dead album made out of albums by solo members that came out the same year. This one is interesting cause technically only one of them was a solo album. Jerry released his album under his name but had already formed the Jerry Garcia Band around this time. Bob was in a band called Kingfish but he only shows up on the first album before leaving. And Mickey released an album with a band called the Diga Rhythm Group which was the most experimental of the bunch. It features an early instrumental version of Fire in the Mountain which would later get released on Shakedown Street.

Yes - Harmonium (1976)

Side A:
1. Hold Out Your Hand - Chris Squire
2. One Way Rag - Alan White
3. Australia - Steve Howe
4. Flight of the Moorglade - Jon Anderson
5. Giddy - Alan White

Side B:
6. Lost Symphony - Steve Howe
7. Solid Space - Jon Anderson
8. Silently Falling - Chris Squire

After releasing the 1974 album Relayer, the five members of Yes took a break from recording, released a solo album in 1975 or 1976, and then regrouped to record the 1977 album Going For the One. This album was meant to be seen as a return to shorter songs but still included a long song as the album closer. A similar stunt happened in 1971 with their album Fragile where each band member contributed a solo recording to make up for lack of time. It led to the album having shorter songs but it also had a long song as the album closer.

This was an idea previously had by someone else, but I thought this user’s version of the album should’ve included a long song as the album closer, even if it meant making it a double album. Chris Squire’s album Fish Out of Water includes 2 long songs and was even called the most Yes sounding of the solo albums, even though he wouldn’t release another album for over 30 years.

Similar to Kiss’ Best of Solo Albums in 1978, this one originates as a promo album for radio stations called Yes Solo LP Sampler which uses 2 songs from each album for a total of 10 songs. The original user determined the track listing by looking at solo songs that were played during Yes’ 1976 tour. For my method, I’ll simply listen to all the albums and choose the best songs. But since Chris’ album has 5 songs like GFTO and also features Patrick Moraz and original Yes drummer Bill Bruford, his album would be a good place to start.

The Steve Howe album Beginnings also feature Moraz and Bruford as well as then current Yes drummer Alan White so I thought these songs would pair nicely with the Chris tracks. It features a couple instrumental tracks we can get rid of, but the Alan White album Ramshackled also featured some instrumental songs. I ended up not using the Patrick Moraz album.
